Rise And Fall + Blacklisted + Break Is Over

CPA Fi Sud, Firenze
This was one of the most awaited shows of the last months for us, dudes of the Florence hc crew. I was looking forward to it since a long time. I’ve been wanting to see Blacklisted for a long time (in order verify if what is said about their live performances was true or not) and was eager to see one more time the almighty Rise And Fall, which I consider the best european hc/metal nowadays around. Furthermore it hasn’t been easy booking this show cause booking agencies in Italy are kinda unashamed and try to get their greedy hands on small hc bands either, and this was such the case...Fuck It, and fuck them. Hc belongs to the kids, you over 30’s so called promoters, go book your metalcore bands and do your dirty gain on that. Once again, hardcore does not need you, fools.
Our good friends in BREAK IS OVER, hailing from Prato, had the hard task of opening the show. I didn’t know what to expect from them. I had heard few songs on their myspace but, although it wasn’t enough to judge them, I was scared they had too strong nu metal reminiscences into their sound and that kinda worried me. Their show pulverized my doubts on that instead. The band’s set was thick and left me a positive impression. Although I’m not into the whole metalcore thing anymore, these guys set was something more than decent and definitely entertained the crowd. Their sound is heavy and very metallic influenced, and the songs sounded much powerful and various live than on the record. If they erase those sloppy melodic guitar parts and insert some serious breaks, then we might finally have a good band whose tunes to mosh to here in Tuscany.

BLACKLISTED hit the stage right after. As I already wrote, I’ve been wanting to see these Phillies live since a long time. I heard people that had seen them saying that live they’re not the best band and therefore I wanted to see if that was true or not. While I wouldn’t say that they were pretty weak, I can’t even say that they blew me off. Their set focused more on heavy, dark sound rather than on fast and furios rhytms. Let’s say it matched a lot with their last record, which I don’t go nuts for to be sincere. Although I definitely enjoied the old songs, I can’t really declare myself 100% satisfied with their set. It’s true, the guy singing was sick and there hasn’t been much pit action going on, yet I was expecting more from this band. I’ll suspend a definitive judgement to the next time I’ll catch them live.
RISE AND FALL were the showstealers. Not that I had many doubt on that to be sincere. Having litterally consumed their last effort, “Into Oblivion” and having seen them live twice last summer, I knew this was bound to happen. These lads from Gent get on stage and immediately shove up the opening smasher “Forked Tongues”, making crystal clear to everybody they’re the band who sets the rules tonight. Their sound is dark and explosive at the same time and quickly takes over the audience, even managing to induce some constant pit action. Bjorn’s vocals are great: gruntling and evil, the guy succeds in keeping them intact for the whole set. The four piece mainly plays songs from their latest huge album “Into Oblivion” and the destructive intensity their scarce 35 minutes long perfomance exhales shows a band on top their game. After this show, I’m more convinced than ever Rise And Fall is the best euro hc/metal band around.
After the R&F, it’s Disco Thrash time. People stuck on the dancefloor gladly dance 80’s best success. It’s a worth ending of a pleasant Halloween. Good turnout, killer tunes and good friends. What can you ask more from an hc show?
