Enemy Alliance, The Indecision Alarm + more
31 August 07 - Waterfront,Rotterdam

Enemy Alliance (Sweden), The Indecision Alarm (Sweden), Drunktank (Holland), Maybee (Holland) at club Waterfront, Rotterdam 31/8/07

Friday 31st August. Club Waterfront. 8 euros damage. A rainy day in Rotterdam. A perfect show to celebrate the end of a long summer holiday.

First band to hit the stage were Maybee, a local super melodic punk rock band, with pop-punkish vocals. Even though their style wasnąt original due to the overplayed genre they played, they played a solid kick ass set. Props to the vocalist! If you like bands like Taking back sunday and the Movielife check them out, otherwise I wouldnąt recommend them . http://www.myspace.com/maybee

Second band was Drunktank. From the amount of T-shirts I could see people were wearing it was clear that this band is well known in the Netherlands, and righteously so. Drunktank played fast technical punk rock with catchy choruses. They reminded me of Venerea and some early Lagwagon stuff and surprisingly they achieved to sound original. Their set was therefore pretty much ok and the band themselves seem to be enjoying it, especially the singer. If you like venerea /lagwagon /satanic surfers check them out. www.drunktank.nl

Slowly club waterfront started filling up with some people. Unfortunately the attendance was very poor. Maybe it was the fact that the two headliners are brand new bands with only an EP or so under their belt, maybe it was just that no one likes good punk rock anymore, I donąt know.

However even though I was feeling a little uncomfortable with the crowd the Swedish band The Indecision Alarm ( ex-members of Adhesive) took the stage. I had heard some of their stuff on myspace and I kinda liked it. I also found it cool that they had listed I Spy as their influence, one of my favourite bands. Well they were amazing, much better live! Unclassifiable and simply breath-taking. At times you could hear crazy speeds, with technical riffs, but then again mid tempo sing alongs with ringing open chords. Imagine a mixture of hot water music/propagandhi/avail/jawbreaker with more dreamy melodies and jagged vocals. Songs like “Through the bandages” and “Treadmill” still ring in my ears. If this band doesnąt get the attention they deserve within the next year you can come find me and kick my ass, I wont resist. Expect a killer LP!
Aside from a musical perspective the band had obvious strong political beliefs which they tried to share with the audience. One member of the band also had a distro with a various list of very interesting books, mainly about anarchist principles and practices. I also spotted the dutch Refuse zine. Hardcore fans get hold of it now!

Last band to play was Enemy Alliance with members from Swedish punk-rock gods Venerea and Satanic Surfers. Even though the atmosphere in the club was very relaxed Enemy Alliance gave a good show. Lets not forget they are brand new and have only released one split, so it was risky for them to go on tour. Sometimes the band wasnąt as tight as they should, and I was also bummed out by the lack of interaction between the two guitarists who where far away from each other stage wise. However I thought they were pretty fucking good playing in the vein of their old bands with a bit more technical variation. And no, no old covers were played unfortunately. If you like the style I mentioned before you should definitely check them out at www.myspace.com/enemyalliance

Overall it was a good punk rock show. The bad part was the lack of people which made parts of the show boring. However The Indecision Alarm saved my day.
