Punkfest13 Edition: 15
22.09.07 - Netherlands, Steenwijk, De Buje

RENTOKILL(AUS), IN-SANE (SLOV), ANTILLECTUAL (NL),ONCE OVER (UK), NOCTOPHYLE (NL)

This show took place in the middle of nowhere. Unfortunately the support wasn't big. I had expected it to be a packed show due to the amazing 2 headliners, but there you go.

First band NOCTOPHYLE played rockabilly/punk/rock. I don't like that stuff at all.

Second band from the UK ONCE OVER. I had seen them last year supporting leftover crack and they were pretty wild. They had improved a lot and kept the crowd warm with the original mixture of skacore with dancy melodies and metal parts. Very good band, and young kids too. Worth to note was how the band touched on the fact that the bands playing consisted of many different nationalities. “Everyone comes from different places, everyone is the same inside.” www.myspace.com/onceover

ANTILLECTUAL from the city of Nijmegen has been characterized as the Dutch answer to Propagandhi, not because of their music but also because of their to-the-point political outspokenness. Their music is a mixture of mid tempo anthemic punk rock with interesting guitars, melodic vocals and great lyrics covering a variety of necessary issues. This was the first time I saw them and im going to try to see them as much as I can in the future. They have also done a US tour. Check them out! Support Dutch bands! www.myspace.com/antillectual

IN-SANE!!! They were insane! Much respect to these guys who came all the way from Slovenia with their cool van. For most of the guys in the band it was also their first time in Holland. They played melodic hardcore the way it should be. Melodic but not fake. Passionate but not poppy. Check them out and consider that for most bands playing in the East part of Europe things aren't as easy as bands in the West. It takes a lot of troubles to manage to tour, make records etc. However this doesn't stop creativity, and the remarkable ability for people to communicate and meet each other through this scene. www.myspace.com/insaneslo

Last to blow our brains was RENTOKILL form Austria. Call it melodic hardcore, call it punk rock, it was pure rocking music. An awesome stage performance, clever politics and just realy nice people! “I don˘t want to hear it” was the final kick in the ass. They will be playing across Europe, the following months. Try to see them it's worth it! www.myspace.com/rentokill

Good show, fucked up venue! I had to sleep in the park (Dutch weather!) to catch the first morning train. C'mon guys don˘t torture us! I know city shows are expensive but they are at least humane.
