Terror + Blacklisted + Donnybrook + Taking Names
26/01/06 - London, Underworld The Terror show has been one of the most awaited gig in ages for the London hardcore scene. After 4 european tours and a Road Runner contract it's pretty easy to understand the reason of the “sold out” ensign posted outside of the Underworld. Rushed just after my daily working shift, I finally reached the well known club in Camden town and a huge peel of kids, as I could never expect was still waiting for the “open door” time. At 7 pm (I know its very early if you compare it with the Italian times ehehe) we are downstars at the Underworld looking forward the band’s merchandising who was definitely to expensive for my poor pockets eheh. However, in a few minutes the club was totally crowded and the opening band, TAKING NAMES started his set. I’ve never seen them before but I realized since their first notes that they are the local heroes of the night. This guys play hard moshin hardcore in the vein of Shockwave, Buried Alive, First Blood with heavy breakdowns and some tipical old school parts. A part of the crowd seemed very familiar with their sound, representing and moshing during their songs. I'd like to mention also a good number of girls who used to dance on the two step style without a second of break…yeah! Well done! The whole pit gets on fire during the DONNYBROOK set, who played with the Terror drummer (what happened with their own one?!). These guys are fuckin amazing, I love their songs, their tough attitude; their live set was so wicked, a demonstration of their improving along the years. To be sincere, I was just a bit scared by the huge weight of the singer ehehe, what could happen if had he jumped on us in front of the stage?! The Los Angeles’s combo played tracks taken especially from the “Lions in this Game” full length and every kid, me as well, got nuts during such songs as Check Your Chest, Purify or Technologic kill. The best moments came when they played “Down for the core” and the last song “Fist By Fist” who is definitely my favourite! After them it’s BLACKLISTED’s time and a good number of supporters moved in front of the stage to sing along. I really expected much more from this band on the live dimension, but I’ ve been a bit disappointed… of course they didn’t play that bad but I was sure to find a better atmosphere. Then they didn’t play enough songs from the debut album on Reflections “We’re unstoppable” who is my favourite work of them. TERROR were next and the atmosphere was getting warm and chilled expecially on the first lines in front of the stage. Their show was a really blast as I never seen before, maybe cause everybody knew that there were some cameras around the stage ready to film the first Terror’s dvd… stage diving a gogo, headwalking and kids moshing kept this show alive and crazy for about 40 minutes of brutal hardcore as only Terror can do. I' ve already seen them six times (!) before but its hard to be disappointed even if you have seen them billions of times. I can't really get sick listening to such great hc songs as Push it away, Life and Death or Better off without you, just to mention a few who spread out so much energy and strength, from the Lowest Of the low album. Anyway also the songs from their debut on Trustkill sound much better live that on the record in my opinion. I was a bit surprised by the presence of loads of nu metal kids, people who don’t have anything in common with the hardcore scene and his whole meaning. I would like to know if the words about unity, family and support went out from the Scott Vogel’s voice were understood by those kind of people. Of course, I’ve got some doubts! Anyway this gig was one of the greatest I can recognise since I started living in London. 11 fucking pounds well spent.
