No Innocent Victim
They're Burning Again...

Interview with Tim Mason (Guitar) made on 21/11/05

Leo: Hello there. Whoever in the band is reading this, I hope he's doing fine. The first question might seem a little clichè, yet I need to ask it:
Why did you guys decided to get back together with No Innocent Victim? You had called it a day in Summer 2002, right? Why had you decided to disband and at the same time, why have you decided to reform?

Tim: At the time we had been doing it for a while and just wanted to go out on our own terms. We didn't want to be forced to stop because no one liked us or anything like that. As far as getting back together we all felt it on our hearts to come back with a renewed vision and focus for the band and who we were trying to target as an audience.

Leo: Hopefully, you're not suffering of these hc reunions disease which already made many famous victims recently.;) But seriously now, what are your true thoughts on all these reunions taking place in today's hc scene? For instance, why do you think a band like Bold got reformed?

Tim: I don't know why they reformed but I think it is very cool. I mean when something is such a big part of your life and you stop doing it I think it's inevitable you are going to want to do it again at some point in your life.

Leo: By the way, which is NIV's current line up? I heard Dave Quiggle is now part of it. How did that happen? And what does he play?

Tim: It is Jason Moody on vocals, Jason Dunn on drums, me Tim Mason on guitar, Neil Hartman on bass(he's new and was in Shockwave and xDisciplex) and Dave Quiggle on 2nd guitar. We got him because he was offered a job out here in California and we were looking for a second guitar player so we posed the idea to him and he was down to do it. It really is a natural fit because we have been close for a long time.

Leo: Will you tell us something about your new album, "To Burn Again"? How is that gonna sound like? Do we have to expect the classic NIV sound or some variations have been brought on the table this time?

Tim: Well, the album definitely has the NIV sound which we wanted to stick with, but it has some things we have never done before. We just kind of went back to all the stuff we listened to growing up and wanted to get
back to doing stuff like that, it was very exciting. Plus with the new additions to the band their input definitely had some effect on some of the writing.

Leo: You've chosen once again to have Facedown releasing your music. Did you have a contract with them for more than 1 record before you broke up in 2002 or you you still were under Victory Records and just really feel at ease with Facedown only instead?

Tim: We were actually on Victory Records when we broke up. We put out 2 albums with them and we were contractually bound to them when we came back but Jason and Facedown worked out a deal to bring No Innocent Victim to Facedown.

Leo: Concerning the lyrics content for this new record, I found the following statement on the Facedown website:

"Lyrically they will be tackling the issue that inspired the reunion - a lack of Integrity in the people that claim to be Christians"

Can you comment that and give some further explanations on it? And by the way, which are the other contents touched in these new lyrics? Who wrote them? Jason?

Tim: The album's lyrics definitely have a running theme. We basically wanted to point out the things we saw that were just wrong and not good and encourage Christians to step up and fix them in their own lives. Hopefully we would be able to help with that in any way we can. Jason wrote all the lyrics and they are probably some of the best stuff he has done.

Leo: I'm pretty sure you don't live off the band especially now after your reunion. What you guys do for a living? And do any of you have families? And will it be easy to conciliate all this with being in a band again? Are you gonna do a lot of touring from now on or you're just gonna be playing few, sporadic shows?

Tim: Yeah everybody in the band is married except for me. A couple of the guys have kids and Jason Dunn has Facedown so we definitely can't beaway for long periods of time. We are going to do as much as we can. We are going to try and do something somewhere once a month.

Leo: Are there really no innocent victims in this world? This one mainly deals with your band's name, obviously. What's behind that?

Tim: Well I wasn't in the band when it was started but it means there will be no innocent victim's in hell.

Leo: Future plans? Are you gonna be touring a lot in the, outside U.S. either during the next months? Do you think you will make it to Europe anytime soon? Would you like that to happen anyway?

Tim: Like I said we are going to try and do something once a month and hopefully we will be able to make it to Europe. I definitely would love to do that.

Leo: Have you got any last things you wanna say to your old time fans and to the younger kids reading this who may not know No Innocent Victim yet?

Tim: Thanks for the interview. Try to find our new album and pick it up. If we are playing in your city or near you come to the show and check us out. Take Care
